⇑ Halloween QUESTS (click) ⇑

Halloween has its roots in the traditions of the ancient Celts. It was once called Samhain. People were finishing harvesting, because winter was on its heels, and it was necessary to replenish provisions as soon as possible. Later, Pope Gregory 1 decided that it would be more effective not to eradicate pagan beliefs and holidays, but to gradually transform them into Christian ones. This is how All Saints’ Day appeared, and then Halloween, which we know in its modern form. In ancient times, the holiday was shrouded in mysticism. It was believed that it was on the night from October 31 to November 1 that the line between the world of the dead and the living becomes very thin. And spirits, both good and evil, can seep into our world. And people learned to protect themselves: they placed pumpkins with candles inside (the famous Jack-O-Lantern) near their houses and wore masks so that evil would not recognize their faces. Nowadays, scary makeup and unusual outfits are part of one of the brightest and most anticipated autumn holidays. This year we will offer you to go on an exciting journey by becoming a participant in unusual and fun competitions, united by the plot of one role-playing game. So, let's begin?

Necronomicon: The Dawning of Darkness (2001)

“Necronomicon: Dawn of Darkness” is a mystical quest from the French Wanadoo Edition, based on the works of Howard Lovecraft. There is everything that fans of the genre will like: artifacts, sinister rituals, riddles, time travel and, of course, the Necronomicon mentioned in the title.

Fish people familiar to Lovecraft's creations

“Scary tale”

The quest is based on a variety of folklore elements. The gaming area is designed in such an unusual way that participants have a completely real feeling as if they were caught in a book binding.

Many locations, each with its own atmosphere. There are many mechanisms that come into play at the most unexpected moment. The tasks are distinguished by originality and subtle humor; each one comes with witty comments.

Light/sound effects are also not far behind. What’s remarkable is that even teenagers can take part in the quest; there are no cruel or bloody scenes here, only the mystical atmosphere of Russian folk tales.

The game is very suitable for a corporate party or birthday celebration with friends. In the same building there are locations for two more quests, so a large company can split up and then tell each other about their impressions.

If earlier those who liked to have their nerves tickled went on roller coasters, now they go in droves to interactive quests. It's fashionable, it's interesting, it's very scary. Try it too, and then share it in the comments.

Sublustrum (2008)

“Sublustrum” is a mystical quest from the Russian company Phantomery Interactive. The main character comes to visit his older brother, a professor, who has found a way to the Shimmering World - a place where you can communicate with the dead. Unfortunately, the professor himself died on the eve of his relative’s arrival. Inspecting his apartment, studying documents and diary entries, as well as strange mechanisms, his brother also finds his way to the mysterious Shimmering World...

The Flickering World from Sublustrum may be the afterlife, but this is not a fact, since the game provides for many interpretations

The most terrible quest in St. Petersburg - “The Butcher’s Shop”

Imagine that you decide to stop at the butcher on the way home and buy something for dinner. But the seller in the store is somehow suspicious - he asks strange questions that make your head spin. You want to get out of here, but it's not so easy...

This is the beginning of the St. Petersburg performance, one of the most terrible quests in the world. The playing space occupies two floors, more than ten rooms - a total of 350 sq.m.

There is contact with three characters and an unrivaled combination of horror and action - you will not only be scared, but also run away, hide, and scream. From the first to the last minute of the game you are haunted by fear and a tense atmosphere.

The game is based on the principle of “maximum emotions, minimum riddles.” Professional talented actors work here, and they are supported by realistic scenery, costumes and other props.

The script is distinguished by its thoughtfulness, and the special effects make it possible to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of horror that reigns in the butcher's shop. And you are the main characters in this interactive performance.

The Bunker (2016)

“Bunker” is a video quest with live actors, that is, it has no computer graphics at all. The plot corresponds to the title: a nuclear war broke out, nuclear warheads were dropped on Britain, and even filled with anthrax. The most prudent British managed to hide in a bunker. Twenty years have passed. Of all the inhabitants of the bunker, only John and his elderly mother survived. After her death, John faces another problem - a catastrophic breakdown of the bunker's life support system. Will he really have to get out into an unknown world that has survived a nuclear disaster?

“Bunker” is a hymn to selfless maternal love. And also British paranoia. After all, the warheads on peace-loving Britain were probably dropped by the evil Russians (who else?!), although this is never directly mentioned. In addition, the game has an unclear ending. Unless there will be a second part, in which John will finally pull himself together and go after the water chip.

Apparently, John did not complete Fallout, but in vain!

The first computer quest

Video games have been very popular since their inception. The Mystery House project was a particularly big breakthrough for the industry. The game was released in 1980 and was the first to use vector graphics. It sold 25 thousand copies (impressive figures for that time). The program is still popular today, as it became the founder of a whole new direction in video games.

By the way, this project can be considered the first in the “scary quests” subgenre. After all, according to the plot, the player must look for a criminal in a mysterious house. The creators were inspired by the novel “10 Little Indians” by Agatha Christie.

Cozy (2016)

“Comfort” is a small but pleasant and truly cozy pixel horror quest. Arriving out of town to visit your beloved uncle, you discover that he is dead. But death is not the end - neither for you nor for your eccentric relative.

Even death can't separate you from some stubborn relatives.

Forgotten Hill: Memento (2018)

The quest “Forgotten Hill: Memories” is made in the style of the popular Rusty Lake series (albeit by other developers). This means there is a lot of creepiness and surrealism in it, as well as witty puzzles, however, also creepy and surreal.

If your wife prevents you from engaging in inhumane and immoral experiments, there is only one way out: kill her!

Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches (2008)

“Rhiannon: The Curse of the Four Branches” is a leisurely but decent old-school first-person quest steeped in Irish mythology. The task is to explore a huge old mansion and unravel the mystery of the ancient curse of an evil sorcerer, which affects all women named Rhiannon. Although, perhaps, there is no curse at all, and the strange things happening in the old house have completely prosaic reasons?

Rhiannon has often been criticized for its dull grey-green color scheme, but it does a good job of capturing the spirit of Ireland, where the action takes place.

"Adrenaline" from PrimeQuest

This is a quest that at one time changed people’s attitudes towards similar horror-style projects. For several years now, daredevils have been playing it with great pleasure. In Moscow, by and large, it was he who aroused mass interest in scary quests. Since the game involves actors, it creates even more horror.

During the passage, you need to solve the riddle of the professor who researched the properties and characteristics of adrenaline, and then disappeared without a trace. You'll instantly forget that you're in a game, and everything will seem real. Don't relax, everything is just beginning. You will have to make more than one difficult decision in order to get out of there alive.

The Dark Inside Me (2018)

“The Darkness Within Me” is a Turkish psychological horror in which you can escape from a hospital, kill and hang a Nazi from the Auschwitz camp on a hook, and also feed the dead man’s bloody hand to a demonic catwoman. So far, only the first chapter of this confusing but intriguing story has been released, but it’s a good start. Looking forward to the continuation!

Not only does the hero suffer from amnesia and for some reason moves through time and space, but he is also pursued by demonic cat women

Corrosion: the Cold Winter Waiting (2013)

In 2009, Alex Truman, the sheriff of the small town of Deacon Oaks, accidentally runs over a man. A few days later, the victim dies in the hospital, and his identity could not be established. A year later, Alex receives a strange call. Only three words are heard in the receiver - “Cold Winter Farm.” Vaguely realizing that this is connected with the man he shot down, Alex goes to the farm - to find himself in a kind of quest version of Outlast with riddles, dark experiments and an ancient demon chasing him on his heels.

An abandoned farm in the American outback is the perfect place for experiments with drugs and summoning demons

The most terrible quest in Nizhny Novgorod - “The Hut”

And here you act as a group of friends who have gone on vacation to nature. The plan is to sit in the forest by the fire and scare each other with scary stories. Arriving at the picnic site, you decide to go before dark to gather dry branches to start a fire.

After chatting, you discover that you have already gotten lost. It seems to some of your friends that you used to walk in the direction of the sun, so now you frantically start running towards it. But the sun is almost gone.

Frightened by the darkness of the forest, you eventually came across a hut. This is good because here you can spend the night without staying in a dark forest full of predators. On the other hand, it is unknown what awaits you inside...

You have 80 minutes to make a difficult choice - wait for the owner of the hut or run away from this terrible place as fast as you can.

Some tasks in the quest involve dynamics, that is, physical activity will be required. Almost all riddles are related to mechanics - many different codes, ciphers and keys.

The interior is very diverse, there are a lot of small interesting details that distract the players' attention. At the same time, everything is safe and clean, so the game brings great pleasure.

The atmosphere of the quest is thought out to the smallest detail - frightening music plays, twilight is everywhere. The actor appears silently, he does not scream or attack, but he still scares you to the point of shaking in your stomach. It is advisable to have a man on the team - solving some riddles will require remarkable physical strength.

Whiskers (2015)

A hand-drawn quest in which, despite its cartoonish nature, there are many truly shocking, bloody and frightening moments. The main character becomes the victim of a crazy maniac in a rabbit costume, nicknamed Whiskers (“Whiskers”). The task seems simple, but at the same time difficult to achieve - to escape from the maniac’s lair and try to survive. Beware, screamers!

Not all rabbits are white and fluffy. Some of them are real maniacs!

"Adrenalin"

This quest is held in several cities of Russia, including St. Petersburg. And it’s not surprising - he is considered one of the best in his genre.

According to the script, you are secret service agents, and your task is to find out where and why Hoffmann, a Nobel Prize winner, disappeared. Presumably, the reason was the scientist’s latest research on the hormone adrenaline.

The investigation begins with Hoffman's office, examining papers and scientific instruments. And then five more locations await, each more dangerous than the other. At the end, you will be able to reveal the secret of adrenaline... if you remain unharmed.

To complete “Adrenaline” you do not need extensive experience in quests. Much more important here is self-control and the ability to make decisions quickly. The level of tasks can be described as average, but that’s not the point here.

Each location has its own design style, each frightening in its own way. There is pitch darkness, bright light, frightening loneliness, and someone’s invisible presence. The performance actor is a true talent and knows how to scare you like you've never been scared before.

There is no need to run fast or use physical force, but it will be more comfortable to complete the quest in comfortable, loose clothes. Children, of course, are not allowed here; the limit is 18 years. The number of players on the team does not matter.

Antumbra (2015)

A gloomy and philosophical, but at the same time funny browser quest, which the author himself dubbed “Dark Souls among quests.” This is a bit overkill, but you will have to die often in Antumbra. Although, with a little brainstorming, death can be prevented and one can reach the finale. If you are looking for an explanation for what is happening in the game, you can pay attention to the title. Antumbra is a reference to the game Penumbra, while both words refer to varieties of penumbra. Thus, it turns out that the hero of Antumbra is stuck between shadow and light, that is, either in a coma or in purgatory. In order for him to wake up (or get out of purgatory), you will have to help him remember his own name.

Every time the hero dies, they call him by a different name, which again emphasizes that he has forgotten (and must remember) his real name in order to leave this strange reality.

“Haunted Manor”, USA

In the Californian city of San Diego there is a real house of horrors, which was opened by Russ McKamey at the age of 55 with his beloved Carol. A visit to this attraction cannot be compared to any horror film or horror game.

Visitors here are tied up, put in cages infested with snakes and spiders, and doused with fake blood. The total duration of the quest is eight hours. But not a single person has yet been able to fully withstand all the tests! Even seasoned sailors ran out of the house in tears.

Russ and Carol don't limit their imagination. Every year they invent new scary elements for their quest. They are inspired by films such as “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, “Psycho”, “House of Night Haunting” and other classics of the horror genre.

More than $500,000 has already been spent on creating the Phantom Manor, and it is truly a unique entertainment facility that has no analogues on the entire planet.

Inside there are four rooms, each of which contains the most hardcore “instruments of torture” for extreme sports enthusiasts. The emphasis is on interactivity so that everyone can test themselves - what they can do and what they cannot. In short, the owner characterizes his quest with the short phrase “It’s Indiana Jones on steroids.”

The entire adventure is recorded on camera, and then you can get photos and videos. In addition, there is an online broadcast, which anyone can watch from the outside.

If you wanted to test your strength, the news is disappointing - the queue for the Phantom Manor exceeds 24,000 people, taking into account the fact that only two are allowed in at a time. But entry is absolutely free.

True, there are some restrictions - firstly, you must be over 21 years old, and secondly, you have undergone a medical examination, the results of which did not reveal any mental or physical illnesses.

The Darkness Within 1-2 (2009-2010)

Another series of scary and mystical quests inspired by the works of Lovecraft. The main character is detective Howard Loreid, who is investigating the murder of a certain rich man Clark Field, an adherent of dark occult teachings. In the process, Howard learns a lot of interesting things not only about Field’s past, but also about his own, finds himself in a majestic underground temple and, perhaps, meets Cthulhu himself.

Cthulhu kindly left his autograph for the hero, as well as the lamp from “Amnesia”

"House of Hannibal"

For horror fans who cannot visit the capital and enjoy the terrible trials, the game “House of Hannibal” was organized in Novosibirsk. For an hour and a half, a team of 2-8 people will survive and escape from the human lover. Hannibal watches the players and imagines himself eating them. Per 100 sq. m people are offered 2 test modes: thriller - the main actor and scary elements are absent, horror - Hannibal is present along with scary details.

Some who took the test were dissatisfied with the plot. For 3 thousand rubles they expected not only loud sounds, but also a high-quality idea. The image of the main actor did not correspond to the image of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, which the viewer remembered from the Ridley Scott film.

The intellectual from the legendary painting was missing from the quest. Instead of Lecter, there was a maniac who, even in terms of age, was chosen incorrectly. Among the reviews there were also positive ones. High-quality acting and a creepy setting were noted. The “newbies” were afraid for the entire 90 minutes the game lasted.

Dark Fall 1-3 (2002-2009)

A series of original scary quests from the English developer Jonathan Boakes. Despite the modest graphics, each of the Dark Falls is a deep and well-developed story with good puzzles and well-thought-out “scares”, which at times evoke real horror. In addition, Boax's beloved ghosts appear in each Dark Fall. If someone doesn't have enough ghosts, it is recommended to pay attention to another scary game by Jonathan - Lost Crown (2008), entirely dedicated to hunting ghosts.

Dark Fall has its own modest, but at the same time chilling and memorable charm

"Whisper"

This quest opened recently; it is imbued with a mystical atmosphere and follows all the usual lines of horror quests, but at the same time has several fundamentally new features.

In the story, you decide to visit an upset neighbor whose husband recently tragically died. But literally from the threshold of their house you are sucked into a cycle of eerie bloody events.

The plot can be called linear, but it has a couple of non-standard twists that make you look forward to the outcome of the story with great anticipation. It's reminiscent of a movie, especially when combined with lighting and music special effects.

The intensity of passions here is maintained evenly, there is no sharp main performance. One thing can be said with confidence – the creators of the quest did an excellent job with the atmosphere of the other world.

Ex-mortis 1-3 (2006-2009)

A series of flash quests dedicated to the sinister Ex-mortis sect led by the infernal lord Vlaev. Awakening after a thousand-year hibernation, the legions of Exmortis bring destruction to humanity. Neither all the governments of the world, nor powerful armies, nor nuclear bombings can stop them. There is only one obstacle left on the path of Exmortis and Lord Vlaev - the fearless hero Joshua...

Lord Vlaev is not without his own charm, but there is no need to be deceived: he is really very bad. Even for an ancient demon

Anna: Extended Version (2013)

The hero, suffering from memory loss, wanders into a sawmill in search of a girl named Anna. While exploring the sawmill, he regains his lost memories of Anna and what connects them. In the process, Annushka very creatively scares the hero with artistically drawn “scarecrows” and makes him rack his brains over rather intricate puzzles. An interesting feature of “Anna” is that the sooner you leave the game, the better the ending (for the character). But what is more important – peace of mind or the opportunity to find out the truth?

"Anna" is a story full of horror, as well as sadness and regret for lost love. Let this love in the end turn out to be very peculiar

The most terrible quest in Moscow - “Pet”

This is an incredibly atmospheric performance, where even before the actors appear, the audience is overcome with a feeling of horror - largely thanks to a well-thought-out eerie legend.

A former Soviet veterinarian opened his own clinic, but soon his wife Vera was brutally raped and killed by a stranger. While the police were inactive, the doctor himself found the criminal.

Having tied him up and brought him to his clinic, he began a monstrous experiment of turning a man into a monster, designed to protect his daughter, Lisa. Many years have passed, Lisa has already grown old and died, and tours of the abandoned clinic are held for those who like to tickle their nerves...

The visitors' task is not to become lunch for the Pet, who wanders alone through the gloomy corridors in search of a victim. The organizers thought of absolutely everything - the sounds, the surroundings, the acting, their costumes - all this causes shivers and goosebumps.

As a rule, contact quests evoke so many emotions, but “Pet” is not one of them. You want to speak only in a whisper so that the monster doesn’t hear you.

The quest has fairly logical tasks; in difficult cases, hints are given. The game is dynamic. And one more thing - here you won’t get dirty with anything, your clothes will remain clean. But you will have to run a lot.

Scratch (2006)

Successful writer Michael Artheit purchases the Blackwood mansion to work on his next bestseller. Unfortunately, he is constantly distracted from his work by strange noises coming from the basement. Gradually, Michael begins to feel that he is not alone in the house. Or is he just going crazy?

Despite the release date, “Rustle” has not become outdated at all and remains an unsurpassed standard of a scary quest thanks to its thick atmosphere, magnificent sound effects and dashingly twisted plot. Interestingly, there is a Russian amateur film adaptation of “Rustle”, released in 2021. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pxsKWp8qek (link to the film on Youtube).

Note to the owner: a dead wife is the most suitable fertilizer for the backyard of your luxurious English estate

"It"

In 2021, the second part of the horror film about the killer clown “It” was released. Based on this story, a quest was created in Omsk. Regardless of the genre, persons over 12 years of age are allowed. Participants will be able to “tickle” their nerves for 3 thousand rubles. According to the plot, after 27 years, children disappear in the city. Players fight not only with their own fear, but also free the souls of the dead.

Photo: still from the film

Among those surveyed, 99% were satisfied with the setting and the acting. To prevent children from receiving psychological trauma, an easy level is available for them, without the presence of heroes and frightening elements. Participants noted that at the first stage the light flickers strongly. It makes my head spin, even though the game hasn't started yet.

Pennywise, the clown from the movie It, is presented realistically in the game, so the team is scared by the very sight of him. For those over 18 years old, there is a high level with physical contact and frequent appearances of the killer clown. In addition to the main character, there are zombies and ghosts. For 1 hour, the team is immersed in the best atmosphere of horror.
