How to decorate a classroom for September 1st: balloons, pompoms or garlands?

In this article I have collected many ideas and examples for decorating a classroom for September 1 to help teachers and caring members of the parent committee create a holiday mood. I hope to save you time and effort :-).

First, I’ll list what you can steal: balloons, paper pom-poms, themed garlands.

WHAT are we going to decorate? The wall around the board, the ceiling, the teacher's desk, the desks.

Decorate the classroom with balloons

Here are the elements that are most suitable:

Foil letters and numbers. This is the cheapest option. You buy a foil figure from an online store and inflate it with a hand pump with regular air. You can attach it to a board or wall with double-sided tape on a fabric basis or hang it on a fishing line (there are “ears” at the top of these numbers)

Aeromosaic. It's cool and very impressive, but a little expensive. The service is available in all major cities, the cost varies (depending largely on the size).

Medium and small balls are placed in a rigid plastic frame. The structure stands independently on the floor, no additional fastenings are needed. In principle, the frame can be reused many times, but in this case your children will need a different number next year.

Helium chain. This is a fishing line to which helium balloons are attached at some distance from each other. The result is a kind of “rainbow” that can be placed above the board and stretched in different directions over the children’s desks. The chains can be hung parallel to each other, or they can be pulled from the corners, crossing in the center.

Single large flowers. This is in case of austerity, since they can absolutely be done without the participation of a professional. Large balls will connect in one plane (5 pieces), put a bunch of medium balls on top, then a ball into the core. Attached with double-sided tape to boards, walls or windows. The most difficult thing is to inflate the “petals” of the same size :-).

"Fountains" made of balls. They are also different. On balloon delivery sites you will find many fountains of different prices. You won’t be able to weave a twisted cabinet yourself. Such columns look good at the entrance from the inside of the classroom and on the sides of the board. The cost of classroom decoration depends on the height of the cabinet and the number of helium balloons. You can make the top from one foil shaped ball (airplane, dog, etc.)

Bouquets of balloons. These are bundles of several helium balloons tied to a small weight (this is also a balloon lightly filled with water or sand). This decoration looks good on the teacher’s desk by the window and always gets into the photo frame. Typically, from 3 to 10 balls are used. Sometimes I see in photographs in the classroom on September 1st single balls with a weight on each desk. Bad idea... Distracts children and significantly blocks the view. It is better to use the teacher's desk and window sills.

Balloons with ribbons “to the ceiling” according to the number of children in the class. Spectacular! You can tie a small card to the ribbon. At the end of the class hour, we give the children balloons so that everyone can draw their dream on a postcard. The launch of balloons into the sky on September 1 is an emotional spectacle.

Large figures from balls . It could be a student with a student, a cartoon character or a clown. Bell. Pencil. The letters A, Z (in the sense, from A to Z), the giant number 1 (especially if you go to 1st grade on September 1). There are ready-made foil letters and numbers (from 40 cm to 2 meters). They are inflated with ordinary air (helium is not needed); they are now quite easy to buy in online stores.

Sun and clouds. This is also a nice technique, many people like it. Bundles of 8-10 white and blue balloons (without helium) are made, which hang from the ceiling in several places. Cloud effect. Paper droplets or small balls are tied to strings. By the way, it is quite possible to make a “rain” of letters and numbers... The sun is made from a large smiley ball (there are special attachments for the rays) or woven from thin sausage balls.

Toys. These are small figures made of thin balls that can decorate the windowsill during class.
Dogs, airplanes, giraffes, butterflies, flowers. Let them decorate the classroom, then give it to the children. You can easily find those who make such gifts for children on the Internet in your city or region. By the way, if you have a suspended ceiling, you can attach these toys to metal bars at different heights. Looks very cool!

Air balloons

Balloons are the most accessible and familiar decorative element that accompanies almost all holidays. The presence of balls in the room immediately creates the feeling that something significant is coming. Be sure to use them to decorate your classroom.

You can do it like this:

  • buy a couple dozen balloons. Fill some part (about ten) with helium, and inflate the rest yourself. Helium balloons can be released to the ceiling, be sure to tie a colored ribbon to it;

Be sure to buy balloons of different colors. Preferably monochromatic, without catchy or inappropriate inscriptions, so that they do not destroy the atmosphere.

  • Distribute balloons with regular air throughout the classroom. Decorate the corners of a chalkboard, a door, tie balloons to the backs of chairs, or stock up on a few balloons for competitions;
  • Write letters on the balls with a marker and make an inscription out of them, for example: “First of September”, “Hello, first grade!” and so on;
  • if you are a fan of creative approaches, you can assemble some character from a children’s cartoon or even a metaphorical image of a first-grader from balloons;
  • For a competition or just a nice little thing, buy a long, elongated ball like a sausage. Such balls are used to add up various figures: a man, a dog or a ring. Place them on their desks and let students use their imagination! Such a surprise will definitely not leave children indifferent, but do not forget to help those who are not very good at twisting the ball.

Helium balloons make great classroom decorations!
After the end of the holiday, all the balloons can be distributed to the children. For them, this is a wonderful end to the day, and for parents, it is an excellent prop for a beautiful photo shoot.

Several examples with comments

Sometimes the teacher or parents have an IDEA. For example, it must definitely be an aquarium with algae and fish. Or space with stars and planets. Thematic decoration is always much more interesting, but I won’t be able to post all the examples here.

A “cloud” of balloons with children’s names looks great (just write with a thick felt-tip pen). All kinds of arches can begin in the corridor. We invite you to make a wish under them and be sure to take photos at the moment of dreaming. The combination of foil letters and numbers (A, B, C and 1,2,3) with stands and garlands of balloons looks good.

School windows

It would seem that the first of September is a holiday exclusively for future students and not much for their parents. But you can also please others who are simply passing by the school. On Knowledge Day, people often turn their gaze towards the school, hoping to notice changes, decorations and schoolchildren.

Window decorations

If you decorate classroom windows with congratulatory expressions cut out of paper, figurines or balloons, this will certainly make passers-by smile. This is not at all necessary, but why not please others?

Paper pom poms

A very popular decoration that has recently migrated from weddings to all other holidays.
Lightweight giant flower balls of different sizes are attached to the suspended ceiling on fishing lines. Large ones are higher, small ones are lower. Amazingly festive filling of space. I have many examples HERE. Check out this article for a few more interesting options for paper decorations. There are beautiful mobiles made of voluminous doves and clouds and much more.

Maple leaf patterns

Content

You will definitely need maple leaf templates if you are preparing to celebrate September 1 or Teacher's Day.

We have prepared several maple leaf templates for you in good resolution. Having selected and printed the desired template, transfer the image onto colored paper and cut out the paper sheet.

There lived a carved maple leaf, In the morning I listened to the bird whistle, It rustled on a maple branch And all summer it was green, The leaf dreamed that it could itself Soar to the blue skies.

Time passed and according to signs, Indian summer has arrived. Our leaf became colored - Red-yellow - painted. An autumn wind flew in, noticed it from afar, whirled it around and tore it off...

“I’m flying!” the leaf said. And then over the old garden In a round dance with the falling leaves, After circling a little more, He flew into my window.

I recognized him immediately and took the wanderer to the vase. Red and yellow - painted, He is always with me now. Author Irina Blazhevich

Themed paper garlands

You can make flag garlands yourself.
Triangular or rectangular flags can contain letters and numbers, school supplies, and congratulations on September 1st. We stretch strings with flags across the classroom or simply hang them along the windows and above the board. Holiday supply stores have ready-made solutions for decorating walls (streamers, banners, posters, large stickers).

If you read the article to the end, you will receive a link from me to print these flags:

They can be printed on blue, pink, yellow and light green double-sided paper, then you will save a lot of ink in the printer! However, there are color layouts at once, choose (the link, I remind you, is below).

Window decoration

Decorating the school for September 1 should start with the windows. They will be the first to be noticed by everyone heading to the line. By decorating the window glass, you will give a small piece of the holiday even to those who will only pass by your educational institution on this day.

You can decorate the windows with applications from colored paper: cut out all kinds of suns, flowers, palms. Windows decorated with multi-colored letters, numbers, and figures will look interesting.

Painting windows with paints will not only create a festive mood, but will also immerse you in a kind of fairy-tale atmosphere. The main thing is to remember that the colors should be bright, rich, and compatible with each other.

Gifts for children on September 1

Gifts can also be a decoration for the classroom, or more precisely, for the students’ desks. Not everyone will agree with me that this is necessary, I myself am not very sure of this, but, judging by the parent forums, gifts are placed on desks quite often. To prevent children from showing interest ahead of time, gifts are beautifully packaged. Intrigue!

What can you wrap?

  • pencil sets and other stationery
  • thematic notebooks or personalized notebooks
  • personalized chocolates (or simply with school symbols)
  • boxes of chocolates
  • books
  • beautiful cases or covers for passes (if the school has a pass system)
  • kinders
  • glasses for pencils and pens

Crafts from first graders

Who said that only teachers or parents of children should worry about decorating the classroom? Students themselves can contribute to the decoration of the classroom. You just need to invite them to use their imagination, provide them with the necessary material and wish them success! You can leave the crafts at home until September, but you can also set aside some time in an open lesson and invite the children to do something during this period of time.

It can be:

  • applications. A couple of sheets of colored paper, scissors and a glue stick are all you need. However, it is worth remembering that not all children can figure something out on the fly or, on the contrary, they will be very upset by the result. In this case, stock up on templates of leaves, doves, bells, and so on, to offer to the guys if necessary;

  • products made from plasticine and matches. If the future class consists of a small number of students, you can take into account the possibility of making crafts from plasticine. For this kind of crafts, you will need cardboard on which the children will work, a couple of three matches for each and a small piece of plasticine (it is advisable to offer several colors);

  • drawing. Every child loves to draw, no matter how well he knows how to do it. The drawing is not exactly a craft, but undoubtedly an excellent decoration for the office. To make things easier, assign first graders several topics so that the drawings stick to a specific theme.

Most of the decorations are removed at the end of the holiday, but crafts can be left. Throughout the year, they will remind first graders of their first day and decorate the workspace around them.

Vinyl stickers

This type of decor appeared relatively recently, but has already become widespread and has received many positive reviews. The size of such stickers is usually about 50 centimeters, that is, they are quite large, but at the same time light and easily attached to different surfaces.

They can be hung on walls covered with wallpaper and not be afraid of damaging the surface; such stickers can be removed very easily and do not harm the texture of the wallpaper.

Vinyl decals can also be used to decorate a door or chalkboard. The choice of designs is huge, so choosing several options will not be difficult.

Tips and warnings

Obviously, one should not downplay the importance of how the design of a classroom in an elementary school affects the performance of students. Therefore, no matter what design you have in mind for a school classroom, it is important to agree on your option with your students, since what may seem wonderful to you may not be so to children. Be sure to take into account their opinions and interests, and then your class will truly become a second home for you and for them, where you will want to return again and again, and decorating the class before the graduation party will be your favorite joint activity.
