This section of the Razumeikin website contains exercises for children 9-10 years old that will help the child broaden his horizons and serve as a supplement to classes in school subjects. When developing a set of tasks for schoolchildren, our specialists tried to make them not only as understandable and exciting as possible, but also truly useful in practical terms.
The “Development” block presents interesting tasks for children aged 9-10 years, helping to improve logical and spatial thinking, memory, and attention. All these skills help simplify the process of mastering the school curriculum. The test tasks in the “Development” block are built in the form of an interesting online computer game for children aged 9-10 years. By completing them, little students practice counting and reading skills and strive to learn something new.
Interesting, entertaining tasks for 9-year-old children in the “Education” block will help schoolchildren consolidate the knowledge they acquired in primary school. The exercises presented here correspond to the problems found in the assessment tests. By consistently completing test tasks for children 9-10 years old, prepared by our specialists, children will be able to:
- Prepare for exams in mathematics, Russian language, reading, and the world around you.
- Recall literary works covered in elementary school.
- Practice solving problems of increased complexity in mathematics and the Russian language.
- Refresh your memory of the topics that were studied within the subject “The World Around You”.
For most problem-questions for 9-year-old children, we have provided a detailed explanation of the solution. It is given to the child if the answer he gave was incorrect or incomplete. The “Science” block includes entertaining children’s games and tasks for 10 years old, through which the child learns about chemical elements, structural features of substances, air pressure, refraction of solar rays, studies fascinating facts about our planet, etc. In most exercises Introductory information is provided, which we have presented in an accessible form. After a preliminary explanation of the task-game, children 9-10 years old are invited to start completing it.
Competitions for 12 years to introduce and liberate guests
If you don't know each other
We carry out the first actions at the holiday in order to liberate the guests. Not all of them may know each other. Familiarization games will help correct this and make children feel freer. For example, "The Blackbird", "The Hatter and the Hats" or "The Golden Goose".
Find out more about dating games if you need one.
Photo competition
Now remember that most children have their own phones and tablets with cameras, so you can organize a photo competition. After all, in any case, most guests will want to take a few photos as a souvenir. It is not necessary to have a photo of the area. You can simply offer children a topic for the best photo. For example, “Holidays with friends,” “Superheroes,” or something related to the theme of the party itself. You can offer children a variety of accessories: fake mustaches, glasses, noses, wigs and much more.
Exercise 5. Logic problems
The more logic puzzles you solve, the stronger your thinking becomes. It’s not for nothing that they say that mathematics is gymnastics for the mind. Indeed, when solving some of them, you can really feel your brain moving.
Let's start with the simpler ones:
- Kolya and Vasya were solving problems. One boy solved at the blackboard, and the other at his desk. Where did Vasya solve problems if Kolya didn’t solve them at the blackboard?
- Three old grandmothers live in the same entrance, on the third, fifth and seventh floors. Who lives on what floor, if grandmother Nina lives above grandmother Valya, and grandmother Galya lives below grandmother Valya?
- Yura, Igor, Pasha and Artem finished in the top four at the running competition. Who took what place? It is known that Yura came running neither first nor fourth, Igor ran after the winner, and Pasha was not last.
And Sashulya brought the next three problems from the Mathematical Olympiad. These are problems for third grade.
“The gardener planted 8 seedlings. All but four of them grew into pear trees. All but two pear trees bear pears. Pears from all fruiting pear trees, except one, are tasteless. How many pear trees have tasty pears?”
“Vasya, Petya, Vanya wear ties of only one color: green, yellow and blue. Vasya said: “Petya doesn’t like yellow.” Petya said: “Vanya wears a blue tie.” Vanya said: “You are both deceiving.” Who prefers what color, if Vanya never lies?”
Now attention! A task of increased difficulty! “To the backfill,” as they say. I couldn't solve it. I suffered for a long time, and then I looked at the answers. She is also from the Olympics.
“The traveler needs to cross the desert. The transition lasts six days. The traveler and the porter who will accompany him can take with them a supply of water and food for one person for four days each. How many porters will the traveler need to realize his plan? Enter the smallest number."

The best creative competitions at 12 years old
These competitions for girls at a birthday party will be especially appropriate, although there are now quite a few creative boys who will certainly enjoy them.
Canvas come to life
One of the participants stands motionless and holds a bright felt-tip pen in his hand, preferably a wide one. His partner draws, moving the canvas (ordinary Whatman paper) and trying to draw a picture. This may be a given image or one conceived by the artist himself. You can change the rules of this creative competition ad infinitum, the main thing is to choose the right ones for your party.
Psychic
We line up all the participants in a line one after another. We give each person a pencil and a piece of paper. We show the drawing to the very last one. Something as simple as a snowman or a tree. We invite him to silently redraw the drawing, placing the piece of paper on the back of the person in front. Then he will redraw it according to the same principle, but relying only on his “back” sensations. And so on until the last. You won't believe what a tree can become by the end of the round.
In general, pairs and team games, relay races and competitions for children twelve years old are what is needed. Especially if you have an even number of guests. Children of this age love to show their superiority over their peers, the main thing is not to go too far, otherwise the birthday party will turn into a fight for prizes. |
Puzzles with matches
In the picture, a school of fish is swimming from left to right. How can you use three matches to change their direction in the opposite direction?
There are five squares in front of you. Remove two matches so that only two squares remain in the drawing?
Make the equation correct by moving just three matches.
Add 2 matches to make 7 triangles in the picture.
Divide the drawing into two equal parts using exactly three matches.
Find two identical figures in the picture. (5 and 9)
Here are four options for match figures. Give the number of the non-standard figure. (3, with one rectangle)
Move 2 matches to show the time 4:30.
You have six matches. Arrange them so that each of them is in contact with the other five matches.
How many matches are visible on the table? (8. If you look closely, you will notice that 5 matches lie in front of the lighter, the halves of 3 matches are visible in the distance, and 5 is a reflection.)
Song and dance battles
A great idea is to use different song and dance marathons. The secret to the success of these marathons is popular music and interesting movements. You can also create obstacles and make it difficult to complete tasks in every possible way. For example, we dance without lifting our feet from the floor and our hands from our knees. And in general, you never know what the intricate human mind can come up with.
Dancing under a mop
You will need a mop or any other stick of similar length and your favorite dance tunes. Hold the stick horizontally to the floor, approximately at chest level with the children. The players line up one after another and take turns dancing under the pole, bending their backs. You must not touch the stick or fall (touch the floor with your knees or hands). Anyone who violates the conditions is eliminated.
Please note: players can only lean backward (not forward) when passing under the stick. After everyone has completed one attempt, the stick should be lowered approximately 10 cm lower and the approach should be repeated for all participants who did not drop out of the competition. The last player to dance is the winner.
Hunting
The names of all guests are written down on pieces of paper and then distributed among the players. What is written on the piece of paper does not need to be shown to anyone. The guest whose name goes to the player becomes his prey. The music turns on, during the dance each player quietly watches his prey, and when the music stops, he tries to grab it. The game is interesting because each participant will be the prey of another hunter.
Name that tune!
On the eve of the party, select a playlist of backing tracks of teenagers' favorite songs and some other popular tunes. Divide the players into two or three groups.
Play a short fragment of the melody and ask the groups to guess the name of the song (sing 1-2 lines). After you have guessed the song, you can sing it in chorus (then it is better to have several sheets with printed lyrics - not everyone may know the words).
The team that guesses the most songs wins. Separate prizes should be provided for the best singers.
Exercise 3. Puzzles
Solving puzzles helps you think outside the box and creatively. Teaches the child to analyze.
Puzzles may contain images, letters, numbers, commas, fractions, placed in very different orders. Let's try to solve some simple puzzles together.
- On the first one we see the syllable “BA” and “barrel”. Let's connect: BA + Barrel = Butterfly.
- On the second, the principle is the same: Ram + KA = Steering wheel.
- The third one is more difficult. A cancer is drawn, and next to it is “a = y”. This means that in the word cancer, the letter “a” needs to be replaced with the letter “u”, we get “hand”. To this we add one more “a”: hand + a = hand.
- The fourth rebus with a comma. Since the first letter is “A”, the guess word begins with it. Next we see “fist”, after the picture there is a comma, which means you need to subtract the last letter from the word “fist”. Let's get "kula". Now let's put it all together: A + kula = shark.
- The fifth rebus is difficult only at first glance. You need to remove the letter “i” from the word “saw”, and read the word “cat” backwards. As a result, we get: pla + tok = scarf.
- The sixth, completely letter puzzle. Everything is clear with the first and last letters, but what about the middle? We see the letter “o” drawn in the letter “t”, so let’s say “in t o”. We connect: A + WTO + P = AUTHOR.
Have you practiced? Now try to solve the puzzle yourself.
You can share your answers in the comments. You will find all sorts of puzzles in children's magazines and books.
Funny competitions for children 12 years old at home
Birthday games for children 12 years old at home are funny and fun - this is the most popular category. In fact, if the company is friendly, and the leader is creative and passionate about his work, then almost any idea will cause fun. Below we present those that are practically impossible to spoil; they are simply doomed to success.
Delicious donut
Usually this entertainment is so fun that the players insist on repeating it! To start playing, you need to tie 2 or 3 ropes to a horizontal pole so that their ends are just below the heads of the players. Pass each end of the ropes through the hole in the donuts. Donuts should be hung at mouth level. At the start signal, each player tries to eat his donut faster than his competitors. You can't help with your hands!
Cookies on the face
The players place a small cookie on their forehead. On a signal, using only facial expressions and head turns, they must try to move the cookie into their mouth.
Egg throwing
The competition will be more fun and exciting if the eggs are not boiled. But in this case, this fun should be done outside. You will need one egg per pair of participants.
Pair up the players and line them up in two rows opposite each other. Invite them to throw eggs at each other. Each time both in a pair catch an egg, they take a step back and throw again. The team that can catch their egg with the greatest distance between them wins!
Find yours
First, you should prepare notes with the names of the animals. Each animal must be recorded twice. Then all the notes are put into a bag and mixed. Participants take turns taking out one piece of paper and, using gestures to depict the indicated animal, try to find their mate: an elephant is looking for an elephant, a camel is looking for a camel, a monkey is looking for a monkey, etc. The action continues until each participant finds their pair.
Exercise 9. Making up a story
Stories can be composed in different ways, for example, based on a picture or on a given topic. By the way, this will help you learn how to write essays. And I suggest you try to compose a story based on the words that must be present in this story.
As always, an example.
The words are given: Olga Nikolaevna, poodle, sparkles, turnip, salary, gray hair, castle, flood, maple, song.
This is what Sasha did.
Olga Nikolaevna was walking down the street. She was leading her poodle Artemon on a leash; the poodle was all shiny. Yesterday he broke the lock on the cabinet, got to the box of glitter and poured it all over himself. Artemon also chewed through the pipe in the bathroom and caused a real flood. When Olga Nikolaevna came home from work and saw all this, gray hair appeared in her hair. And now they were going for turnips, because turnips calm the nerves. But turnips were expensive, costing half their salary. Before entering the store, Olga Nikolaevna tied the poodle to a maple tree and, humming a song, went inside.
Now try it yourself! Here are three sets of words:
- Doctor, traffic light, headphones, lamp, mouse, magazine, frame, exam, janitor, paper clip.
- First-grader, summer, hare, button, gap, fire, Velcro, shore, plane, hand.
- Konstantin, jump, samovar, mirror, speed, sadness, step, ball, list, theater.
Word games for birthday
Verbal competitions at home with friends usually go off with a bang. Crocodile, Elias, Field of Miracles, Papers, I'm Going to the Forest, What were you doing there? – everything that makes you think carefully and laugh. You won't believe how long it can take to guess an ordinary "spinning top" or understand that you are the "Lion King".
Cryptographer
Players receive a task - a word that must be deciphered. It could be absolutely anything. It is necessary to come up with a sentence so that each word in it begins with the next letter of this task word. For example, if the word “SCHOOL” is given, then it can be deciphered as “The Naughty Goat Called Andrey Affectionately.” The author of the wittiest transcript wins.
With your own hands
At the age of 9, children are still unfamiliar with many patterns of the adult world, and retain a direct vision of it. It is not for nothing that the school curriculum includes, along with the basic ones, creative lessons: music, drawing and labor. The creative desires of nine-year-olds find outlet both in the classroom and at home. Parents and older brothers and sisters are a great company for creating appliques, sculpting, drawing and sewing. Children aged 9 sometimes want to be alone, stay with their thoughts and take a break from the group. Let them have it. Independent creativity can be an excellent meditative background for such reflections.
Competitions for boys 12 years old
There are a lot of purely boyish fun, however, many girls take part in them with pleasure. For example, both boys and girls enjoy playing a game like “air defense”. A strange name for a children's game? - Not at all.
Air defense
The goal is to shoot down paper airplanes with paper projectiles. One launches, everyone tries to shoot it down. Whoever has the most surviving planes is a great guy. It can be the other way around. The game is especially suitable for parties in the style of pirates or space sagas.
Step on the ball
Ask guests to remove their shoes before playing. Give each player a small balloon with a fairly long and strong thread and ask him to tie it to one of his legs in the ankle area.
On command, the players try to crush (burst) their opponents' balls, while simultaneously trying to protect their own. You can't help yourself with your hands! The player whose ball is crushed is eliminated. And the last person standing with an inflated balloon tied to his ankle wins.
Winking Killer
This is a game for a large group. Everyone sits in a circle. One person is appointed as the driver and is removed for a while. While he is away, everyone else decides who will be the "killer". The driver returns and stands up and winks at one person in the circle (trying to do this unnoticed by the driver). The one who was winked pretends to die. After which the killer chooses a new victim. The driver must guess as quickly as possible who the killer is. As soon as he guesses right, the killer becomes the next driver and the game starts again.
Fashion show tournaments are great for girls' parties. You can invite the girls to choose their own images, draw lots, or simply name them. The point is to express your image as clearly as possible in one pass. Such events are also great for creative and artistic guys. The main thing is to correctly fit their performance into the overall concept of the party.
Mental development of children: how to supplement the school curriculum
Classroom activities are balanced and cover many aspects of young pupils' lives. “Repetition is the mother of learning” sounds very relevant to second and third graders. Continue to develop school lesson topics at home in all subjects.
- Native language and reading. Add the following educational games to the program: create crossword puzzles together using more and more unknown compound words. Pay your child's attention to spelling, read together and try to memorize parts of the text. It is important that it be matter-of-fact. This way you stimulate the development of memory and associative thinking. Retell the texts. After you read a story or excerpt from a book, ask your child to retell what he heard in his own words. Draw his attention to the sequence of events in the story and the style of presentation. Ask questions and answer together. A question is the best stimulus for activating thought. Ask about anything: about the weather, about the time, about plans, ask for a physical description of the students and teachers. Please ask for details.
- Mathematics. Solve math-based puzzles. Let them contain both numbers and pictures. This way, solving them will be more fun and the game will not turn into a routine. On the way to school, in public transport, or while walking, give your child oral multiplication tasks. What is twice seven? Ten times eight? Correct the inaccurate answer, remember the mistakes, and set the same conditions the next day.
- General knowledge about the world. Spend at least 15 minutes every day reading an encyclopedia. Start with the topics that interest your baby more than others: astronomy, sports, prehistory. Gradually move on to other topics that you think your child should be immersed in. If your child is already learning a foreign language, it will be useful to include games in that language in your program. Show a card with pictures of new objects and phenomena. Add more and more complex concepts. Examples for the English language: brotherhood, competition, success, etc. When moving to a new class, the program is supplemented with new subjects. Prepare your child for them by playing. Is computer science waiting for the student? Consider the basic issues of computer operation. Will a foreign language start? Learn to introduce yourself on it together, learn the basic verbs of movement and animals.
Just interesting birthday contests
Instant
We select the presenter and expel him from the room. We give the rest the task to freeze, depicting a certain scene (image, event). The presenter's goal is to guess what it is. Naturally, we change the presenter every time, as well as the scene.
Birthday toys
The wonders of the toy industry gave the animators an interesting idea. The point is to be blindfolded and determine what kind of toy it is. Even ordinary bears turn into lions, turtles and, at the very least, dogs. The surprise shown by the participants performing this task is always incommensurate with the result.
Volleyball match
A fun tournament will help develop children's reaction speed and dexterity.
We divide the players into two teams and seat them on chairs that were previously placed at a distance of about a meter from each other. Between the teams there is a rope stretched on the floor that separates the teams' territories.
The players receive a balloon and start playing volleyball, but the players are not allowed to get up from their chairs or catch the ball, they can only hit it. The goal of each team is to make the ball fall into the opponent's territory. The count goes up to 10 points.
PS: it is most appropriate to hold such tournament competitions at school, camp or on the street, because not every birthday boy’s home conditions allow him to “set up a volleyball court.”
We also recommend watching camp games.
Eskimo blind man's buff
This game for children is similar to the game of ordinary blind man's buff; the driver is blindfolded and thick mittens are put on his hands. He must sense by touch who is standing in front of him. The one whom the driver recognizes leads next.
Graphic puzzles for teenagers
Connect nine stars with four lines without lifting your hand.
Count the number of triangles in the picture. (64)
Arrange the numbers 1 to 9 in a grid so that the numbers in each row, column and diagonal add up to the number 15. Remember that you must use all 9 numbers.
Remember the game of tic-tac-toe and place six crosses on the board so that there are no more than two in a row.
Fill out the grid so that each row and column contains the numbers 1 through 6. Also, make sure that the squares that are connected to each other contain the same number.
Count the number of squares in the picture. (40)
Place the numbers 1 to 19 in the circles so that each side of the triangle adds up to 17.
In the picture, four matches form a square. Make five squares using six matches?
Is it possible to arrange six balls so that each of them touches a ball of a different color?
Place 10 balls so that there are 4 balls on each line.
Table entertainment
You can also diversify the children's feast. If there is very little space for active entertainment, you can arrange table fights. Puzzles, flip-flops, riddles, crosswords, quizzes, video and audio guessing games. The gaming industry offers us many interesting board and table games.
Many parents want entertainment to not only bring joy, but also be useful to their children. They carried an educational component. It can be easily included in quizzes and quests, as well as in drawing tasks. For example, 3D drawing. It is easy to do and absolutely everyone can do it. Especially, drawing a hand. To do this, you only need a few multi-colored felt-tip pens and the ability to draw semicircular lines. The effect is amazing and the effort is minimal.
When choosing game tasks, remember the main rule: they must fit into the theme of the holiday. You can't fly spaceships at an Indian party and play Vikings on a spaceship.
Well, the birthday boy himself will be happy to help you decide on the theme itself. Ask him what he likes best. This will be the answer to the birthday theme question. Write down the number of tasks and games with a good margin, because the children’s reaction cannot be predicted. If you see that the idea was unsuccessful, change it and move on to the next option. After all, the purpose of any holiday is pleasure.
Physical development - team spirit
It is impossible not to notice with what interest and excitement nine-year-old students participate in school competitions. The team spirit captures them, unites them among themselves and stimulates them to new exploits. Traditional school games for 9-year-old boys that develop reaction and speed include football and volleyball. Girls often prefer skipping rope, jumping over obstacles and gymnastics.
On the parent side, comprehensive support for the physical activity of a child of this age is necessary. Sport is designed not only to train endurance and reaction, but also to stimulate the all-round development of a person. It is not for nothing that popular wisdom preserves the dogma that “a healthy mind in a healthy body.”
