How to make invitation cards for children's birthday with your own hands

Where does the organization of any holiday begin? Of course, with compiling a guest list. And when the list has already been compiled, it’s time for invitation cards. Here, many people take the simplest route - they buy ready-made cards in a store, sign them and send them out or give them to guests. This option is also possible if the birthday is just around the corner and there is no time to create a unique card design. But every parent wants their child’s holiday to be special, which means the option with standard invitations will not work. And the birthday boy himself will get a lot of pleasure from the process of creating invitation cards with his own hands for his own holiday.

To get original and unusual cards, you need to make invitations for children's birthdays with your own hands. And it’s a good idea to use your imagination. We’ll just give you a few ideas for creating postcards that will inspire your creative process.

Materials

Before you start creating, you need to acquire everything you need. Whichever option you choose, in any case you will need:

  • cardboard or thick paper;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • pens, pencils or markers.

If the design of the cards is planned to be non-standard and interesting, then you may also need: corrugated paper, bows, beads, ribbons, lace, sparkles. Well, in order to attach all this beauty, you need to have a glue gun, a hole punch, and a stapler on your household. This is not a complete list of materials that may be useful, but they will be quite enough to make beautiful invitation cards.

Making original invitations to a pirate party

I want to tell and show how I designed invitations for my son’s birthday. The family council decided that it should be a pirate party: with pirates, treasures, a ship (in our case, a motor ship). I wanted to completely immerse myself in organizing the holiday, and so that the guests also understood where they were invited and what awaited them. For this it was necessary to make invitations. It's a pirate party, which means the invitations should be in the appropriate style.

But now I will show and tell you how to make invitations for a pirate party (for a pirate birthday!).

We will need:

- knowledge of Photoshop to beautifully design the invitation text; - cardboard or Whatman paper A4; - instant coffee; - dish sponge; - Printer; - stationery knife; - jute rope. 1. Create an invitation layout. We come up with the invitation text you need. We find pictures on the Internet that we like on a pirate theme. These could be pirates, schematic maps for treasure hunting, skulls, ships, palm trees.

I also looked at the text on the Internet, but redid it in my own way. I worked with text, fonts in Photoshop, and inserted pictures into the foreground and background. And we got this themed invitation in black.

I set the size of the invitation in Photoshop to A5 format (21 x 14.8 cm) so that I could print two invitations on A4 sheet at once.

But I didn’t stop there. I found this black and white invitation boring. I wanted to see this text and pictures on aged paper.

2. Aging of paper.

To do this, I took instant coffee, which was available at home. You can use ground.

Using a sponge (new, clean), I applied the coffee solution onto an A4 sheet of cardboard (whatman paper). I applied it to the entire surface with light movements, without pressing on the paper, to avoid pellets. After drying, I left drops here and there, squeezing the sponge a little. Or sprayed it for a more antique effect.

And so on both sides of the paper. I let the paper dry.

Of course, you could completely dip the paper into instant coffee, but you need a larger container and more solution. I made do with a sponge.

3. I used a printer to print out my pre-prepared layout on aged paper. The resulting text is already on aged paper.

Very pirate-like. :)

4. To give the invitation a more authentic antique look, I used a utility knife to trim off the jagged, chaotic edges.

They could also be set on fire, but I didn’t take the risk. And you can try. Also, uneven edges can be aged tones, for example, with brown pastel. I didn’t have it, I wanted to see the result as quickly as possible and give it to the guests.

Although this option suited me completely!

5. To ensure the invitation created intrigue for the invited friends and their parents, I rolled all the invitations into scrolls and tied each one with jute rope.

I hope guests will appreciate this approach. They will come to the holiday in full regalia and will already be prepared for such a themed holiday from the very beginning.

Thank you for your attention! I was glad to share my experience and joy with you! My son is 5 years old after all. :)

Yo-ho-ho! :)

Choosing a shape and color

If you don't want to bother, opt for a standard square or rectangular shape. This form is also beneficial in terms of saving material - by cutting a large sheet of cardboard into rectangles, you will get a minimum of waste. You can make a regular single card, or you can fold it in half so that it opens.

Well, if you consider the standard version too banal, make a postcard of some more creative form. Here are a few ideas to consider:

  • for girls;
  • for boys;
  • universal.

You can cut out twice as many of these blanks as the number of invitations required, and fasten them together, for example, with a ribbon. Then you will get invitations that can be opened.

As for color, it is advisable to choose it depending on the theme and color scheme of the holiday itself. After all, this is why we choose a theme for the holiday, so that even such details as invitations can be kept in the same style. It would be counterintuitive if you made blue invitations for a ladybug-themed children's birthday party.

Details

Designing a homemade invitation can be a lot of fun and creative time, just make sure to convey all the information your guests need.

Sometimes parents need more information than date, time and place. For example, it is useful to indicate whether you are planning a table for guests, what you are going to treat the children with (so that parents know whether to feed the child before going to the holiday, or not).

Set of polymer figurines for decoration “Old Circus. Presentation." By adding specific details, such as your phone number, you can avoid confusion; If anyone has any questions or concerns, they can easily contact you.

Some details are easier to write on the invitation right away than to talk over the phone in person (for example, that “sorry, but we can’t accommodate many guests, please come with one

from parents”, or “please inform us in advance how many of you will be there”, or for a carnival party “please, no monster costumes, only positive heroes”, or “we will provide chocolate, do not bring sweets as a gift”, etc.).

Preparation

Once the color and shape are chosen, it's time to start working on the cards. First of all, you need to buy the base material. It is better to choose thick paper or cardboard so that your invitation card does not wrinkle during transportation. If you make colored cards, choose colored cardboard - this way you won’t have to paint it the right color. Next, we take the template of the shape we chose the day before and trace it on cardboard. After this, all that remains is to cut out and the blanks for the postcards are ready.

How to create an invitation to a children's party

There are several ways to create an invitation:

  • They buy ready-made tickets at a printing and stationery store or special departments for holiday decorations.
  • They make a homemade postcard by designing it themselves using decorative elements and preparing original text.
  • They use a ready-made template from the Internet, which they print and sign. If desired, it can be supplemented using editing programs or decorated after printing.

With your own hands

This method is labor-intensive and painstaking. For postcards you will need colored paper and cardboard, scissors, stationery glue, pencils, felt-tip pens, and a ruler.

To begin with, decide on the shapes of the postcards, draw a sketch on paper or cardboard, then cut them out.

The decoration of the card depends on the imagination of the birthday boy. These can be hand drawings or figures (stars, cars, flowers) cut out of paper or cardboard. You can decorate the invitation with openwork ribbons, bows, braid, rhinestones, and stones.

The finished card is presented with or without an envelope. You can roll it into a tube and tie it with a ribbon. But then paper is chosen as the main material, not cardboard.

For a pirate party, it is advisable to issue an invitation in the form of a map on which the path to the treasure is indicated.

Make it online

On the Internet they use special programs - online designers, where you can create an invitation or other postcard for free. In the programs, you select the shape of the ticket: vertical, square or horizontal. Then the background, inscription, text, suitable fonts and styles are selected.

The ticket is framed in a colored frame or made movable in GIF format if it is an electronic ticket and is not planned to be printed. There are programs that allow you to select a background by selecting a picture from your personal gallery or the Internet.

Content

To fill out the postcard, you need to draw lines on the blanks in which we will write the text of the invitation. You can draw such lines by hand, or you can print them on a computer and stick them on top of the workpiece.

When there is room for text, you can begin to write the invitation text itself.

What must be included in an invitation?

  • Date of the event. After all, the invitation itself is a message about when the celebration will take place. The guest may know when the birthday person has a birthday, but there are times when the celebration takes place on a different day, so the date must be communicated.
  • Time spending. Another mandatory invitation requisite. Be sure to indicate the start time of the holiday.
  • Location. Let it be your home or a children's cafe, in any case it is worth writing it down in a postcard. If you are celebrating in a cafe or restaurant, it is advisable to indicate its exact address so that the guest knows exactly where he needs to go.

Invitation wording

The great thing about store-bought invitations is that they usually have cute invitation phrases printed on them, all you have to do is fill in the name, location, and time.

If you're making your own invitations, you'll not only have to come up with the right wording, but decide how and where to place it to make it look beautiful. For invitations to children's parties, choose bright, short, simple text-headings (Princess Anna invites you to her castle on such and such a date, Admiral Alexander is waiting for you on the deck of his ship, Valya goes to visit Peppa Pig and invites you join the trip, etc.).

You can also rhyme the text if you can.

The title location is on the front or top of the invitation. The headline immediately tells children what to expect, and leaves space inside or at the back for the “boring” details that are intended more for parents (place, time, and other details).

Invitation text

We already know the main components of the text, but a creative approach to the text adds originality to the invitation. Here are some examples of unusual invitations:

  • Beautiful princess! Come to our birthday ball…….which will take place…..at……
  • Secret message to a secret agent...... We are waiting for you at the intelligence meeting in honor of the Birthday.......
  • Hello, my friend! I'm waiting for you on a fun birthday, which I will celebrate...in...Come, it will be fun!

Depending on the chosen theme of the holiday, you can come up with your own version of the text.

Invitation delivery method

Delivery is another important consideration when choosing an invitation design. For example, a message in a bottle is a fun way to invite friends to any sea-themed celebration.

If you are able to deliver invitations to each recipient yourself, personally, the size of the invitations and the form of presentation is not a problem. For mail items, find out envelope options, postage, and estimated delivery time (invitations should be sent out very early so everyone can prepare to buy a gift).

Invitation templates

If you don't have the time or ability to create cards, but want original invitations for a child's birthday, templates will come to your aid. You just need to print them out, enter your text, and the cards are ready.

These templates are suitable for a girl's birthday. Delicate, in pink tones, with hearts and flowers, little guests will definitely like them.

But such cards would be appropriate for a little gentleman’s birthday. The first option is automotive themed, the second and third are more neutral.

This card is suitable for both a boy and a girl, so if your guest list includes children of both sexes, then take this universal option.

This option is suitable for those who do not have a color printer at home. Black and white cards will look stylish, but if you wish, you can paint them by hand. This design option is simple and your birthday boy will like it.

Children's birthday: preparation

An invitation to a birthday party or other special occasion is a special thing. Invitations are, of course, simply a means to convey basic information about the holiday to those you invite, such as the time and place of the event, the theme of the party (if there is one), and costume requests (if there is a masquerade). Handwritten note, postcard or computer graphics? Anything. However, an invitation is much more than information! This is a little treasure, the eve of the holiday
for the recipients of the invitation.
This is the very first impression of the party itself
; where the holiday begins. And therefore, it’s worth imagining and designing invitations that will create a feeling of celebration for you, not to mention your guests!

Homemade invitations give you the opportunity to personalize events from the very beginning, as well as create a memorable gift for your child. The fact is that we all invite to a children's party, as a rule, not too many guests

. You literally need 3-5 invitations; after all, these are not invitations to a wedding, when dozens of cards are required. And when you need only a few invitations, you want to arrange them beautifully, because you will have enough strength for that.
