Party in the style of dudes: color the dull gray!

Ready-made scenarios for indoor and outdoor quests: Quests for children (up to 10 years old) Quests for teenagers (up to 16 years old) Quests for adults (over 18 years old)

How inspiring American films and TV series are, especially those dedicated to a certain era. In the CIS countries, they don’t know too much about the American 50-60s, about the dudes and their lifestyle, although it contains a lot of unusual entertainment, and a show in this style will clearly amuse all friends. After the TV series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and the movie “LaLaLand,” I especially want to recreate that amazing atmosphere - bright outfits with midi dresses and miniature hats, fiery dancing, jazz or boogie-woogie music and many, many funny jokes (in this At that time, the stand-up industry was developing). So why not organize a party in the style of "Hipsters"?

Party organization plan: 1. Room decoration 2. Invitations. 3. Dress code 4. Menu dudes 5. Dances, competitions.

Transforming a living room into a dance hall

The first step is to decorate the room or other place where the party will take place. The combination of incongruous things is not entirely about the era of dudes. They just loved bright colors and original things. So, let's begin:

  1. If there are curtains in pastel shades in a room, apartment, cafe or restaurant, decorate them with colored ribbons, garlands, paper lanterns, and artificial flowers.
  2. Attach bright elements to the ceiling - corrugated paper balls, disco balls (which, by the way, can be made from pieces of old CDs), hang brightly colored satin ribbons, balloons (can be polka dots, or all colors of the rainbow, with funny inscriptions). A cool idea and quite easy to implement is to hang old vinyl records.
  3. You can also place around the room the spirit of the past - Soviet floor lamps, if suddenly there are no balls or other details. Or you can use modern multi-colored floor lamps.
  4. Buy flowers in fuchsia shades, bright yellow, red, and put them in vases. An economical option in terms of finances, but not in terms of time, is to make such compositions from corrugated paper.
  5. Plain white plates are suitable, or, depending on the location of the holiday, stylized plastic dishes with polka dots. Glasses and plates can be decorated with paper elements in the pin-up or pop-art style (tubes decorated in the form of mustaches, dresses, shoes, handbags, cigars, headbands, dollars, ties, guitars). Cover with colorful polka dots.
  6. If possible, install a gramophone or an old tape recorder. They may not even work, but they will perfectly convey the spirit of celebration. Lay out the vinyl records.
  7. Hang bright posters around the room with interesting and bold slogans. The easiest option is to find such posters at flea markets. If you have time and a little talent, draw it yourself.
  8. Don’t forget about photos or posters with Elvis Presley, the famous idol of most dudes.

What you need to keep in mind when planning a party in the style of "Hipsters"

Once you've discussed all the individual components, you can move on to planning the party as a whole. You should select a script in advance, provide appropriate props, assign roles and, ideally, rehearse several times . The sooner the preparation begins, the more successfully the action itself will go and the fewer overlaps and awkward hitches the participants will have to endure. You can take a ready-made script, or you can come up with it yourself. The action and plot can occur even when invitations are distributed: they can be designed in the style of DOSAAF membership cards or other documents of that time. The option can be considered quite original if, in the spirit of that time, each guest in the invitation is named by the Western version of his name. So, with a slight gesture, Mikhail turns into Michael, Anna into Annette, and Eugene into Eugene. At the doors, as at the apartment parties held in the 60s, you can set up a kind of patrol, or “smart guy”, choosing for this the most artistic participants who are able to play up any situation with humor. To complete the effect, you can pre-select a password like “Does Aunt Sarah live here?” and for more laughter, not tell all the guests about this, watching how they will get out of a difficult situation. The further course of the party may be a mixture of dancing, games and competitions . It is optimal if the host guides the entire evening with a skillful hand, which will help give the party some organization, however, improvisations in this matter will also be appropriate.

Photozone

The easiest option is to make a collage from posters or vinyl records. But the plates require a little modification when preparing for the party - cover the inner round part with bright (possibly neon) colors with colored paper. This preparation won’t take much time, but it will add zest to an essential attribute of the party. You can, of course, take a simpler route - color the middle with bright markers, but the appearance of such plates will be worse compared to glued colored paper.

Start of the event

New Year in the style of "Hipsters" - competitions, entertainment, quizzes are quite unusual. The basis of the party can be the so-called initiation of all its participants into a certain clan. That is, two camps are being formed - “Komsomol members” and “hipsters”. Initially, the guests of the event do not belong to any of the clans. Once in the middle of the twentieth century in a suitably decorated room, participants are immediately immersed in the atmosphere of bygone times. You can meet them with pre-prepared posters with inscriptions like “Uncle Yosya works here?” etc. Each guest can leave their “autographs” written with a marker on such an attribute. The main thing is not to forget about creativity. A little later, the inscriptions left can be read aloud. As soon as all the guests gather together, the host announces to them the reason for which they have gathered. After this, the first toast is made and the so-called test of strength is carried out - participation in various competitions. So, what can holiday guests expect?

Ready-made quest scenarios ⇓

If these are posters, it is not necessary that they feature only dudes or Elvis Presley. Caricatures were popular in the 50s, and you can make them using special programs on your computer:

  • MomentCam;
  • deformer;
  • Cartoonist;

To work with these programs, it is not necessary to have professional web designer skills. All you need to do is upload a photo or picture of people. An excellent solution would be if you take photos of invited friends. Try this option - a photo zone made from printed posters-pictures (there are plenty of them on the Internet), caricatures of friends and a couple of decorated records. Fast, inexpensive and bright - everything you need! Order a photo zone from an advertising agency. You can print out an image of a red convertible, stick it on a plastic base and go!

Invitations

No banality and no printouts on white, colored paper. Find thematic templates (there are plenty of them in online editors like Avatan) and think about an invitation message (no official stuff - a friendly, simple style and a couple of sentences in the spirit of: “Hey, friend! On March 20, no later than 19-00, we’ll hang out at my house ". Mandatory dress code - something in the spirit of the dudes, the 50s. There will be a lot of jazz, delicious drinks, fiery dancing and original competitions! I'm waiting! " Invitations can be designed according to the style of the decorated room, it will look bright and tasteful .This way you pre-set your invited friends in a stylish mood. For example, you can take a vinyl record as the basis for an invitation. Making such an invitation will not be difficult - just black cardboard and any colored paper to decorate the middle.

Competitions for a party in the style of a "dude"

When describing the preparation process, the issue of competitions was deliberately omitted, since this important point deserves separate consideration. As holiday regulars say, there can never be too many competitions, so it’s better to prepare them in excess than to watch guests drown out their boredom with alcohol . This is also quite easy to do, since today many resources are devoted to preparing such events, and this only requires time and patience. There should be competitions for different age groups, as well as for different purposes, to ensure fun for everyone . Here are a few competitions that would be quite appropriate for this evening.

Guess the melody

You can start the evening and pump up the audience with the help of this incendiary competition, where you will guess the melodies of those years in the spirit of which the party is being held . All guests, without exception, can guess them, and the winner, of course, will be the one who knows the retro compositions best.

Dance competition

It can be organized in different ways, but many will enjoy a selection of music from that time, arranged in such a way that one dance abruptly follows another . This will reveal not only who can dance the best, but also who has the fastest reaction.

Who gets dressed faster

For the competition you need two guys, two girls and two colored shirts. The girls put the shirts on, and the guys' job is to unbutton the buttons and take them off as quickly as possible . Everything would be fine, but the men have very thick mittens on their hands , and with their use, the process of undressing and dressing turns into a clownery, so none of those present can stop laughing. The winner, of course, is the couple that completes all the steps faster and does not mix up the buttons.

Film adaptation of the song

Those present are divided into two teams, and they are given a song from the 60s, which they must dramatize . You can provide them with appropriate props to make the film adaptation more authentic. The team whose efforts are crowned with great success wins, although in general everyone wins.

There are many other competitions and quizzes: for example, you can conduct a poll to see who knows the situation of that time better or remembers the film “Hipsters” more clearly; you can do tug of war, dance on chairs and do much more, the main thing in this matter is not to get bored!

Choosing a dress code?

Guys

In the 50s, the most fashionable hairstyle was an Elvis Presley bouffant. But nowadays it is difficult to find the male half of the population who can afford to do such a bouffant. That’s why we leave the guys’ hairstyle as is J. But you can go wild in clothes. The choice is huge: from old huge jackets to tight, fitted jackets with the most incredible colors and prints. When choosing an outfit, don’t be afraid to look towards bright colors such as fuchsia, red, blue, green. Also, stylish men loved to wear pipe pants (checkered and with suspenders). Invariable complementary attributes were satin polka dot ties and sunglasses with colored lenses.

Girls

Of course, these are only midi-length dresses with petticoats and low-heeled shoes (up to 7 cm).

Ready-made quest scenarios ⇓

The dresses were airy, light, and they mostly preferred this type of print – like large polka dots. Needless to say, the abundance of flowers in clothes is the inevitable calling card of all dudes. It is also important to pay attention to makeup, hairstyle and accessories. In the 50s, the fashion was high hairstyles with backcombing or loose hair, but again, with a root backcombing and headbands, polka dot ribbons. Makeup would not be complete without bright red lipstick and eye shadow in blue, green, orange, and pink shades (by the way, there is still a fashion for these colors now, but in a more sophisticated style). Girls from richer families still lined their eyes, wore fox-shaped glasses, high stockings, and gloves. And don’t forget about an equally important accessory – large colored beads and matching earrings.

Suits

The image of a dude is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. A lot of attention was paid to details: costumes for a dude-style party should be consistent, not tacky. As in decor, “parrotism” in clothing is more likely to be ridiculed, a caricature.

Dude, dude

Boldness in choosing clothes often resulted in loss of reputation, which was a disaster for women of that time. If stylish guys were considered simply hooligans, then the weaker sex was accused of debauchery. Therefore, the clothes of the girls walking in the company of dudes were not too revealing (on the verge, so to speak). What should a girl wear to a stylish party:

  • bright dress to the knees or below . The waist is slightly high, and there is a wide ribbon with a bow at the waist. The hem is bell or fluffy, with a tulle petticoat. Hip-hugging dresses with a revealing neckline are appropriate - this option was considered more daring;
  • a blouse “accidentally” unbuttoned with a couple of extra buttons . The skirt is fluffy or tight, boldly revealing the knees;
  • In addition to typical women's clothing, stylish girls wore trouser suits - classic or sports . But this was decided mainly by residents of large cities, where society was less sensitive to youth quirks.

To highlight the image, you will need accessories and recognizable elements of the costume:

  • tights, fishnet stockings;
  • closed shoes with heels slightly higher than average (too high a heel interferes with active dancing);
  • large bright beads, earrings, bracelets;
  • hair support tape or plastic headband. On the side this accessory was decorated with a bow, a flower bud;
  • trendy “cat” or square glasses with colored frames;
  • gloves of any length, light openwork;
  • a miniature handbag with a thin strap or clutch.

Women's hairstyles in the style of dudes are distinguished by reliable fixation, neat styling and smooth lines: a crown of the world, a fluffy ponytail, a babette, a high flight. The makeup is also neat - drawn eyebrows and arrows, bright shadows with clear boundaries, red, cherry or pink lipstick. The main thing is without negligence. Don't forget a bright manicure.

Dude

The male image is more impressive and clearly shocking. According to the recollections of contemporaries, the girls looked almost invisible against the background of dudes, the guys’ clothes were so provocative! It is not surprising that numerous poems, phrases, cartoons, etc. It was men who were fashionistas who were most often ridiculed. So, a dudes costume for a party consists of the following elements:

  • bright shirt, plain or with a pattern;

  • checkered jacket, double-breasted, a little big at the shoulders (jackets);
  • narrow “pipe” trousers, also in plaid . Could be part of a suit or different in color from the jacket. The pipes are slightly short so that the sock can be seen from under the trouser leg;
  • socks (socks) are bright, usually in harmony with a shirt or tie;

  • herring tie (taek) is long, thin, tied in a small knot . Often with monkeys, saxophones, palm trees and other bright designs;
  • suspenders in the color of other style accessories;
  • pointed boots, with or without a high platform . To imitate a platform, the guys built up a layer of rubber, often white (shoes on a decoy). Shoes with a conversation - pointed toes, with a pattern of holes on the toe - were considered very fashionable.

On the head of a real dude there was always a shiny spinner, firmly fixed in place. If your hair is not long enough, put on a hat - dudes wore them too.

In addition to the stylish girl and the dude, the following can come to the party:

  • vigilantes, Komsomol members “in uniform”;
  • caricatures . Everything described above, but “too much,” is clearly exaggerated. A dress that is too short, trousers that are too tight, an unimaginable combination of all the shades of the rainbow in clothes;

  • dudes from the outback, imitators and loaf girls . Regular 50s clothes, (sort of), but with some stylish accessories, often clumsily chosen;
  • "early" dude . The image is comical in many ways: wide long trousers, a thin belt almost above the navel, a huge baggy jacket, a wide-brimmed hat, a wide flashy tie. A parody of the American “zoot suit”;
  • a black marketeer who hides under the flaps of a long jacket a variety of ties, ribbons, suspenders and other accessories for sale.

All the clothes are easy to buy. But it will take time to think through the image and select the elements - let us know about the party a couple of weeks in advance. For forgetful guests, prepare buckle ties and beaded hairpins.

What to eat?

Since the dude subculture originated in America, the food should be American (80% of it is unhealthy fast food, but you can customize all the dishes to suit yourself and make them harmless):

  • burgers;
  • panini (sandwiches);
  • grilled vegetables;
  • steaks;
  • fruit slices;
  • pizza;
  • french fries;
  • chips;
  • cheese sticks;
  • breaded onions.
  • An obligatory component is sweets. You can make a separate small candy bar with muffins, cake pops, cupcakes, cake, donuts with glaze. The main thing is that all dishes are colorful, like the party itself. Although this is not a problem with desserts - a little coloring in the dough and icing and your candy bar will have all the shades of the rainbow. If you are an ardent opponent of dyes, decorate your dishes with paper cards (the same as the dishes).

What drink?

The hipsters were mostly middle-class people, which is why they drank inexpensive soda, beer, wine, and champagne. Mandatory drinks - Coca-Cola, port wine, whiskey and soda, punches.

What to dance to?

Hipsters are endless dances (mostly in pairs), where unusual supports are important, you need to jump, turn and spin a lot and often. Therefore, no dramatic music - only fiery hits - jazz, rock and roll, boogie-woogie, twist. Calm music is allowed at a party only as a background during gatherings or conversations. You can add songs from the following artists to the playlist:

  • Charlie Parker;
  • Louis Armstrong;
  • Duke Ellington;
  • Elvis Presley;
  • Bill Haley.

Menu, serving

There were no special pickles in the hut, much less in an abandoned house. And the goal is different - to dance, heal and find a mate. Snacks are in tenth place.

You can get by with pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs and snacks - nuts, corn sticks, chips. Of course, much of the above was inaccessible to real dudes. But they tried to imitate the Americans in everything! So it would be appropriate to create a party menu based on this principle.

The classic buffet is completely in dude style, because the party is a dance party. The rule is the same - the recipes for the menu are simple, mostly including products available in the USSR. Make mini sandwiches with herring, cucumbers, caviar, boiled sausage and cervelat, as a tribute to tradition.

Desserts will become the main decoration of the table if you try. Using colored fondant, colored icing, and caramel, it's easy to create a sweet rainbow of colors that's bright and cheerful! And for your birthday, order a stylish cake in the shape of a record, saxophone or other recognizable attribute.

Use miniature cards, paper applications, colored disposable tableware, bows. For ambiance, you can put on the table several jars with labels that have hardly changed over the past decades - sprat in tomato, squash caviar, condensed milk, etc.

Be sure to prepare punch and several bright cocktails: Cherry, Yantar, Volga, Old Thomas, Cowboy, Carnival - all of them were served in the Cocktail Hall, recipes are on the Internet. Attach “liquor” and “port” labels to the bottles, and “Rizhskoe”, “Leningradskoe”, “Zhigulevskoe” labels for the beer. Buy Georgian wines - these are what the dudes drank most often. And, of course, whiskey is a tribute to fashion!
