Decor
Start your design by choosing a color scheme. The combination of white and delicate blue shades is an airy, elegant decor. Red color is ideal for creating bright accents. To liven up your interior, add blue, turquoise and traditional stripes. Beige decorations and attributes for a marine-themed party - sand and shells, green - algae, palm trees.
Use textiles - drapery on windows, walls, ceilings and furniture. For example, light white fabric – sails, blue – sky, sea. Burlap, unbleached linen, and fishing nets will fit in. The drapery will serve as a backdrop for thematic decorations and will hide inappropriate interior details.
It is better to fix the material in waves, a little carelessly - the vagaries of the elements. The net looks very nice on top of blue fabric or stretched out to dry on the wall. When attaching decor to textiles, take into account its total weight.
Stock up on pebbles, shells, corals, starfish, decorative fish, seagulls , etc. – they are useful for decorating literally everything. You can do something with your own hands - cut it out of paper, print it, draw it. Something to buy in a store for aquarists.
Decide on the main idea: beach, tropical island, underwater world, on board a ship. If you mix everything together, it won't be very stylish. This design is ideal for children, and for adults, the subdued ambience of a seaside party, without an excess of details, is more suitable.
This does not mean that anchors and steering wheels are inappropriate on the “beach”, and that there cannot be fish and algae on the “board of the ship”. Just create an emphasis on the main idea, and use other attributes in moderation, as a festive addition.
- decorate chandeliers so that they do not violate the integrity of the picture. The easiest option is to replace the lampshades with round paper lampshades (a penny at Ikea). If you cut it in half and add decorations, you get charming jellyfish.
- Sisal and ropes fit organically into the theme - use them in compositions, for table decoration, instead of napkin rings. If the chandelier shades are not removable, you can wrap the horns and the central part with rope. It’s easy to attach decorations such as “pearls”, shells, small pebbles to ropes and rope with a glue gun.
- if you are planning to throw a nautical themed party for a wedding or anniversary, use simple decorations to decorate the ceiling. For example, paper lanterns, pom-poms, silhouettes of seagulls on transparent fishing line. Do you want colors and fun? Make garlands of triangles - striped, red and blue, with drawings or a birthday message.
The party can go... down the drain! Surrounded by wonderful corals, graceful algae and scatterings of underwater treasures. Then let seahorses, fish, dolphins, octopuses, squids and other bright living creatures “swim” (the same transparent fishing line) on the ceiling and walls:
- hang captain's wheels, lifebuoys, anchors, boats, portholes on the walls, doors, backs of chairs. They are easy to make with your own hands from scrap materials;
- You can write jokes and congratulations on anchors and lifebuoys. And with the help of portholes, you can visually expand the space and make the interior more realistic. Print it out, stick it on a piece of cardboard, hang it along the walls;
- arrange miniature compositions around the hall, place sailor attributes here and there:
- jars/bottles decorated with shells with sand, pebbles and other decorations inside. Do-it-yourself corals: carelessly stick glue from a gun around the wire blanks, paint them, assemble them into a “bush,” and stick them to the stand with the same gun.
- treasures in chests, caskets (in a craft store you can buy cheap beads, rhinestones, “emeralds-diamonds”);
- underwater gardens in jars or small aquariums (you can add a couple of live fish), model ships, sextants, compasses, telescopes, maps. Pirate paraphernalia will also fit in, but don’t overdo it - this is a separate topic. (for reference if necessary)
- blue, red and white hydrangeas, reminiscent of tropical corals, are the most suitable flowers for a sea themed party. Lilies and alstroemeria will fit in. Instead of flowers, you can put crooked decorative branches in bottles;
- you can hang signs “galley” at the entrance to the kitchen, “wardroom” above the table with refreshments, “radio room” above the musical equipment, “latrine” in a well-known place.
Original ideas for sea parties
Ideas for sea parties - the sea! For clarity, we advise you to look at photos of nautical-themed parties. Here are the most common options:
- Undersea world. For decoration, use turquoise, coral, aquamarine, orange and dark blue colors. Mandatory attributes are figures of underwater inhabitants (sharks, corals, dolphins, turtles, crabs).
- Classics of the genre. The main colors are just like the Russian tricolor: white, blue and red. Attributes include lifebuoys, ropes, anchors, and striped details.
- Fishing party. Shades of white, orange, blue, marsh and brown. Attributes: fish, fishing rods, fishing tackle, grass, reeds.
- Party on the deck. Primary colors: blue, white, red, brown, black. Attributes: captain's caps, mast, steering wheel, deck, boats.
- Holiday of the Little Mermaid. The predominant colors are coral, aquamarine, turquoise and hot pink. Main attributes: seahorses, shells, algae, crabs, octopuses.
Photozone
If the party will take place “on board a ship,” design the photo zone as a captain’s cabin or deck overlooking the sea. You can print and glue a ship with cut out portholes for faces onto the base. Or put a boat against the wall, against the background of the sky and waves. A simple but effective photo zone - the seabed: a blue background plus algae, shells, fish and other decorations.
You can print out a beautiful sea view and arrange/lay out thematic attributes in the foreground , in artistic disorder. You will get both a photo zone and a set of accessories for taking pictures. Let guests fool around by putting their heads through a life preserver or “knocking” a neighbor’s head with an “anchor” - the memorable photos will be fun and lively!
How to prepare a room for the holiday
The success of the event largely depends on the design of the place where the party will take place in a nautical style. The photos will remain bright and unusual if the holiday organizers manage to stylize the rooms as a ship’s deck and turn them into pirate cabins. The ideal choice for a holiday venue is a house with a swimming pool.
The shades that should dominate the space are white, blue, red. As decor, elements that are somehow related to the sea are needed. These could be shells, stones. It’s great if there is a large aquarium in the room. As an alternative, you can use a variety of fish images, presented in the form of paintings and toys.
Walls hung with fishing nets and metal cans will help maintain the atmosphere of a nautical-themed party. If the room is two-story, the main means of transportation should be a rope ladder. Sun loungers and lifebuoys will help complete the overall look.
Invitations
It is better to hand out invitations two weeks before the event so that guests have time to prepare their costumes (if a certain dress code is expected). You can make an invitation to a seaside party yourself, print a template or buy postcards - this is a popular topic.
Use maritime slang: we moor at berth No. 5 (house number) in the Preobrazhenskaya harbor (street). If according to the scenario, the party guests will go through a quest, hint at it in the text: “In addition to delicious treats from our cook, an exciting journey to a desert island awaits you.” Invitation ideas:
- sea inhabitants, different or one;
- a message in a bottle decorated with pearls and shells;
- boat, anchor, lifebuoy;
- a shell with text inside (a postcard or a real shell with a card);
- a figurine of a sailor or sailor, a cap, a guy and other elements of a naval costume as a form for a postcard.
Main features and nuances
You can use several design options. They differ in general content and focus:
- Actually, the “marine” option is anchors, ships, sails, steering wheels and other similar details that are present throughout the entire space allocated for the party.
- One of the most popular nautical style options is pirate, including treasure maps, ancient chests, gold coins, the Jolly Roger emblem, and pistols. This option is preferable for a children's party.
By the way, we have a script for a pirate party for children. Why not celebrate your child's birthday in this style? Well, here you can familiarize yourself with the principles of holding a children's party in the Hipsters style.
- “Underwater Kingdom” - an abundance of figures and images of all kinds of sea inhabitants: crabs, fish, stingrays, algae and much more.
- One of the most interesting ways of design is creating a cartoon sea world. For example, the world of the Little Mermaid with its palaces, Neptune’s trident, colorful fish and pearls. This option is especially good for a women's party.
Each of these areas is completely independent, but at the same time relates to the marine style. They all have a lot in common - these are the main attributes and details. One of these parts will be sand. It’s good if the party takes place outdoors near the sea or lake. And in an ordinary apartment, you can fence off a small area of the hallway at the entrance and pour a little sand, collected on the shore or purchased at a gardening store, onto a piece of blue fabric.
Suits
To avoid confusion and embarrassment, it is better to discuss with your guests in advance how to dress for a seaside party. There are many options, and the dress code differs depending on the event - for a birthday, a wedding in a restaurant, or just meeting friends outdoors or at home, the same thing is unlikely to be suitable. Additionally, costumes depend on the main idea, if one is defined. We offer options:
- Evening or regular clothes in themed colors (blue, white, red). And the organizer will prepare decorations and sea attributes for everyone (chest at the entrance).
- Beachwear - shorts, light sundresses, pareos. Swimsuits of the listed colors or simply decorated with themed accessories (shells, pearl beads, miniature anchors, starfish). Instead of a headband - swimming goggles. You can put on flippers for fun (and take them off after the photo shoot).
- Striped or white shirts, tank tops, T-shirts. Black or blue skirts, shorts, trousers. Peakless caps and caps, guys and other uniform accessories. Cabin boy, sailor, boatswain, captain? Even if it's a naval party, the costumes can be stylized without being too formal (key word - party!).
- Simple and informal - denim bottom, striped sailor jacket. It can be artistically torn, decorated with appliqué, dropped over one shoulder, tied in a knot under the chest - add raisins! Many girls have striped T-shirt dresses, they also fit perfectly into the theme.
- Thematic images , one way or another connected with the sea: mermaid, Poseidon, fisherman, corsair. Or sea creatures - goldfish, octopus, shark, squid. This costume should be comfortable and light, or wear something underneath so that you can take it off after the photo shoot.
Buy accessories for a seaside party - earrings, bracelets, beads, hair jewelry in a recognizable style. Imitation pearls and algae, shells and mother of pearl, corals, pendants - anchors, steering wheels, etc. Although it is faster and cheaper to make them yourself. Earrings, bases for bracelets and other accessories are sold in handicraft stores.
Dress code for a nautical wedding
Guests will understand the theme of the wedding from the invitation cards themselves, but it would still be a good idea to notify them in advance about the dress code. In principle, choosing a suit will not be difficult; just choose something blue or light blue. Particularly original individuals will like the idea of a vest.
Bridesmaids and groomsmen should choose dresses and shirts that match the overall theme and style of the celebration. So friends can appear in sailor costumes, or simply limit themselves to a vest. A blue shirt would also work.
You can offer your girlfriends the idea of light dresses in various shades of blue and light blue, and complement their look with shell necklaces. Dresses stylized as a naval uniform will look interesting.
Groom suit
A nautical wedding theme gives the groom a lot of room to choose a suit. This can be a classic version in pure white, or a blue suit. You can limit yourself to just a white shirt, reminiscent of a naval uniform, and a stylish tie. A sea captain's uniform will look luxurious on the groom.
The boutonniere, of course, is only in blue and white and in the same theme as the bride’s bouquet, but you can use a design made of small shells, a ship’s rope, a starfish, an anchor or other marine symbols.
Bride in nautical style
A nautical-style wedding dress can be traditional white, but any shades of blue are acceptable. The stylized decor in the form of vest stripes will look interesting. The style of the dress should be simple. Fluffy skirts with numerous hoops do not fit well into the concept of a sea holiday. The fabrics are translucent and airy.
The dress can be complemented with a long airy veil, or you can use a wreath with shells woven into it.
Shoes, of course, are in white or blue. Light sandals with elegant heels or openwork sandals will look great.
The hairstyle should be light, without complex hairdressing techniques. Loose curls or slightly careless styling are welcome. Greek hairstyles will also complement the look well. The hairstyle can be decorated with hairpins and combs in the form of shells and starfish.
The bride's bouquet should correspond to the overall floristry of the celebration - delicate blue and white flowers will emphasize the touching and tenderness of the image. An interesting solution would be to additionally decorate the bouquet with shells.
It’s logical to choose jewelry in a marine theme: pendants in the shape of an anchor, earrings and a necklace made of shells, bracelets in the form of chains, etc.
As you can see, a wedding in a nautical style is a fairly easy celebration to execute. Lots of colors, lightness, romance and freedom. Such an event will be akin to a real sea adventure and will become one of the most exciting events not only in the life of the newlyweds, but also of their guests.
Menu, serving
Think about where exactly your friends will eat. The wardroom is a traditional feast. Picnic on the beach - lots of shells, sand, starfish, corals. Ship – sail over the table/tables, floor-length tablecloth, blue background.
Prepare dishes that are blue, white and/or red. Cut cards to decorate appetizers, skewers, utensils - steering wheels, anchors, sea creatures. Decorate coasters, boxes, jars and glasses in a nautical style. For humor, you can stick labels “Rum”, “Sea Water”, “Tear of a Mermaid” on the bottles. Serve nuts, chips, dried fish and other snacks in thick paper boats. Desserts can be placed in halves of coconuts, pineapples, grapefruits and other tropical fruits.
The table should be in harmony with the interior of the room. If hand-drawn cheerful decorations are used to decorate the party, then elegant restaurant serving will fall out of the theme, and vice versa.
Prepare light snacks - sea fish, seafood, miniature sandwiches, kebabs, canapés. It is not necessary that the menu consists entirely of seafood; not everyone loves them. Let there be meat dishes on the table, a variety of salads in portions, a lot of fruits and vegetables.
Use seafood as a garnish for some dishes. Bake cookies - stars, fish, anchors, boats and other simple shapes. Cupcakes and other desserts can be easily decorated in a nautical style with icing, sprinkles and fondant.
Any drinks for this themed party will suit the tastes of the guests. You can buy a couple of bottles of rum, make a few tropical cocktails, serve punch in the “ship” (hide a bucket between the cardboard right and left “side”). For a birthday, order a cake in a nautical style - a delicious surprise for the birthday boy and guests!
Choosing music for a sea party
The mood of the invited friends is largely determined by the musical accompaniment. For a marine-themed party, the sounds of raging waves will be the ideal backdrop. The selected soundtracks included in the film “Pirates of the Caribbean” will not let guests get bored. Any children's songs about pirates are relevant; for example, you can borrow compositions from “Treasure Island”.
It is not necessary that every song has a direct or indirect connection to the sea. You should definitely stock up on catchy melodies that can be an ideal support for dance competitions. It is worth considering in advance the territory for the dance floor so that the guests having fun do not disturb each other.
Entertainment
We offer a scenario for a sea party, including a quest (treasure search) and something like an exam, according to the results of which all children will become real sailors.
For each game or competition, children receive a fragment of an encrypted message. Having compiled all the fragments and deciphered the code, they will find out where the treasure lies. For example, if the treasure is under a palm tree (a cardboard palm tree with a box under it), the message will contain: 12-13-1-5 * 17-16-5 * 17-1-13-30-14-16-11.
To decipher, you need a piece of paper with a numbered alphabet and a pen. Or use Morse code, because the party is in a nautical style (just clearly separate the dots/dashes of each letter so that they do not merge into a solid line).
For preschoolers, simply draw a palm tree (or where will you hide the treasure?) and cut it into several fragments (puzzle). There should be pieces of the message according to the number of competitions.
Presenter : I welcome you aboard the “Name”, brave cabin boys! Today, after all the tests, you will become real sailors! Or are you afraid of difficulties?
Children : we are not afraid!
V : Well, okay! Let's see if you have enough ingenuity, because a sailor cannot do without it!
Riddles on a sea theme
- I’m not lying at the bottom out of laziness, I’m holding the ship in place (anchor)
- The sailors lift me up, a fair wind blows me up (the sail)
- I burn for sailors in the distance, so that they can see where the edge of the earth is (lighthouse)
- Standing on his bridge, looking into the distance through binoculars (captain)
- Who calls the kitchen a galley and cooks both borscht and compote? (cook)
- The wind blows - we run on the water, in calm weather you won’t see us anywhere (waves)
- Who fell overboard? I don’t panic, I don’t scream, but I immediately fly after him (a life preserver).
B : Well done, cabin boys! You deserve to become sailors. Here is the first fragment of the secret message. If you collect everything and solve the code, you will earn the title of real sailors! But before difficult tests it won’t hurt to eat. Delicious break.
Q : Did you eat and drink? Then listen to my command! By the way, do you know the commands? Are you doing it carefully? After all, without this there is no way on the ship. Need to check!
Sea party: children's photo session
For an unforgettable photo session in a marine style, you don’t have to go to the sea coast. You can arrange an original photo zone right on the street or even in the house.
To do this, purchase styrofoam balls of different sizes. This prop is made from regular foam. It can be purchased at craft stores. You will also need paints. We will paint some of the balls turquoise and blue, and some in sea green. We set aside large balls for making jellyfish.
Cut the pieces in half and slightly round the edges. We paint the resulting hemispheres in bright colors. We paint the tissue paper from which we will cut out the tentacles with the same shade. Glue the finished tentacles to the base. We string the finished balls and jellyfish onto fishing line or ribbons. All that remains is to hang it up and the area for the photo session is ready.
We cut out props for children in the form of masks, octopuses and starfish from cardboard and attach them to sticks.
